Ladies: 4 Rules of Thumb When Dressing for an Upcoming Golf Tournament

If you are planning on attending an upcoming golf tournament, you could be wondering what you should wear for the occasion. Although you might be pretty excited about the event and want to look your best, you might not be sure where to start. There is a lot of leeway when it comes to choosing the proper attire for a golf tournament, but you will need to remember a few rules of thumb. Follow these tips, and you should look and feel great in whatever you choose to wear.

1. Consider Dressing Modestly

Remember that you will be in rather sophisticated company at many of these tournaments. Also, think about the fact that the wind often blows and can cause dresses, skirts, and tops to blow around in ways that you might not have intended. Therefore, you might want to opt more on the modest side when getting dressed for the event.

2. Opt for Neutral Colors

Although you might love your brightly-colored clothing, you should avoid it on the golf course. Clothing in bright colors or prints can be distracting for the golfers, so opt for more neutral colors instead. This doesn't mean that you have to dress boring, however; there are plenty of beautiful options in black, brown, navy, taupe, white, and other similar colors, and you can always dress up your outfit with a few accessories.

3. Remember to Wear Comfortable Shoes

Although you might love your high heels or sandals, neither are really appropriate for a golf tournament. Remember that you will be doing a lot of walking through dirt and grass, so choose shoes that are appropriate for the occasion. For example, a nice pair of flats can be comfortable, match with just about any outfit, and help prevent your feet from getting dirty while you are following the golfers around through the dirt and mud.

4. Protect Yourself from the Sun

Remember that the sun will -- hopefully -- be shining down on you and everyone else at the tournament, so remember to protect yourself. Consider wearing a wide-brimmed hat to shade your face, and apply sunscreen in all exposed areas before you hit the golf course. You may even want to opt for light, long sleeves to help protect your arms from getting burned.

Attending a golf tournament can be a lot of fun, and it can be even more enjoyable if you are dressed properly for the upcoming golf tournament.
